Recalls
Koons is your one-stop-shop for all things safety recall related. Learn how to view recall information on the cars we have in stock, and read about where to lookup any potential safety recalls on a car you may already own.
A recall is issued when a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle, equipment, car seat, or tire creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation that carries out vehicle safety programs. Part of NHTSA’s work is to establish and enforce safety performance standards for vehicles and vehicle equipment and to investigate vehicle safety defects.
To know if the car you want has an un-repaired safety recall, go to its car detail page and click on the NHTSA Recall Look-Up link. The link to the NHTSA Recall Look-Up is located on every car page. When you go to the NHTSA website from the car page, the car’s VIN will be pre-populated into their search engine and the search results will display automatically. You can also go directly to the NHTSA website at https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls to search. The NHTSA’s website has information on safety recalls based on vehicle year, make, and model, as well as safety ratings and other general safety-related information. In addition, Koons provides free CarFax® reports online and in stores, which may include safety recall information on some manufacturers’ vehicles. Before you purchase a car, your Koons Associate will review a CarFax report and results from the NHTSA Recall Look-Up with you. Please note, the NHTSA and CarFax websites are not controlled by Koons, and Koons does not warrant the accuracy or completeness of their information.
For vehicles of the brands we have new-car franchises for, we will complete all safety recalls prior to sale. For example, if one of our dealerships has a Toyota vehicle with an open safety recall, it will be completed by one of our Toyota dealerships before being sold to you. If we don’t have a new-car franchise for a model vehicle, the safety recall may not be completed. This is because manufacturers only allow their franchise dealers to complete a safety recall. A Koons associate will always review your vehicle’s history, including disclosing if any open safety recall has yet to be completed. To see if your vehicle has an open safety recall, click here.
Vehicle manufacturers are required to fix unrepaired safety recalls at no cost to you. If your vehicle is one of the brands that Koons has a new-car franchise for, we will complete the safety recall. For your convenience, Koons offers complimentary pickup and delivery of your vehicle.
